Last year one of our clients had a voucher and brought in her son with his bicycle. What a great prop and personal too.

This reminded me of when I was  a very young boy and my mother bought me a shiny new bike – I loved it.

We were going to go on a ride to the local park and we were going to meet Jimmy my cousin, who actually owned an SLR camera.

But, as always life gets in the way and my Mum couldn’t make it that weekend. So no photos. I wasn’t bothered because I was racing up and down the street

making a racket and getting a few stern glances from the residents!

Any way that same weekend I left the cycle out in the back yard. The next day it was gone.

Someone stole it. I never did get that photo taken. I now know if I did have it, it would be priceless. I guess my two kids would find the photo rather funny of me in shorts  and my first bike.

Back in the days when I was growing up life could be tough. So much so I never had another bike throughout my entire childhood.

Of course their were my friends bike that I played on, but its not the same. I had to wait until I was  nearly 16 before I bought a second hand one off a good friend who let me have it cheap.

Yes, I saved up for a long time so I could pay for it myself. All made from my first money paying job as a butchers assistant on a princely wage of 50p per hour, but that’s another story.

Anyway when that little boy came in to the studio with his mum and bicycle it kind of pulled me back to those bygone days and my brief encounter with my first bicycle.

The photo shoot went down a storm and I’m happy to say that little boy will have a photo or two

to show his children. And I know who ever bought his Mum that portrait voucher he’ll be thanking them more and more with each passing year.

You know the Christmas Holiday season is racing toward us once again with long nights and short cold days. This time of year always reminds me of stories by the fireside, I know I’ve told the bicycle one many times.

when I was a child, I had an uncle, Big John. He used to tell me so many tales that kept me entertained for hours.  I know if he were with us today I would not move a muscle and listen to every word. He was a wonderful story teller with ghost and leprechaun stories the biggies.
